why not put it on the front & have a jumper block to take one out the back too?  I'd rather have it in the back, because it'll basically stay where it is, and the last thing i need is more cable mess.....  it's the same reason most people put their power supply in the back.

I second that cry... having to turn my entire cabinet around to
plug/unplug a midi cable is a giant pain... they make those nice
switchcraft 12BL5M nickel din plus that would look nice sticking out
of the front panel of the modular. there's something about being able
to have the midi jacks on the front panels that makes this feel like
a complete system, rather than an analog synthsizer with a midi work
around. this is the whole reason i'd sell my 8 channel encore
expressionist for a 4 channel motm interface, total system
