Subject: FW: FW: [motm] syncing motm to audio

Yeah, it does sound like, for what you want to do, and Envelope-Follwer/Gate
Extractor is what you need. This would convert the overall sound "envelope"
into a continuous voltage, and then the Gate Extractor (a '700 COULD be used
for this) would be 'tuned' to output a pulse for the peaks it encounters.

In lieu of an Envelope Follower, you could try using a mild-slope lowpass
filter, and then feed that into the '700. The MOTM-420 LP might be a good
choice. It would be hard to say without experimenting with it, and it would
depend a lot on your source material. But the core of an EF is usually a
6db/octave LPF anyway... this acts as a kind of "lag" if you want to think
about it that way, converting the AC fast-moving waveform into a slower
voltage whose level is nominally the same as the high/low points of the
audio.

Does that make any sense? It's really an area where you need to play with it
rather than talk about it. What I suggested above may or may not work for
you.

Paul has an EF in the pipe, also.

hi,

i would like to sync the lfo or vco to existing (multi-layered)
music - i guess larger-scale rhythmic synchronization would be the
description! not to other vco's etc - i do understand the concept of
syncing vco's etc. thanks for helping out here!
