Subject: SKB pop-up mixer case back installation

When you install your SKB backs into your SKB pop up rack, you should
install the backs without the top or bottoms attached, or at least without
the screws tightened. The top and bottom should be installed or have the
screws tightened afterwards.

There is some intentional slop between the top and the sides when you
install the top. This is to assure that the top will indeed fit over the
sides. If you install ∗and∗ tighten the bottom and top first, it could
slightly spread the sides which will cause the appearance that the back is
too wide. That is not the case. I measured each one individually. In fact,
I rejected 60% of the original backs delivered from the machine shop because
the there 25/1000 of an inch too wide. When they re-did them, they made
sure not too me too wide, and some are a few thousandths of an inch more
narrow than the turned lips on the top. The tops are perfect.

But, if you tighten the tops on before installation, you may spread the
backs slightly.

Send me a note if you have any questions.
