I always play with my back to the audience when my
modular is along. Lots of blinking lights, knob
twiddling and patching going on. I hate all of those
boring laptop guys out there; it doesn't make any
difference what direction they are facing.
Electro-acoustic stuff is also a big crowd pleaser
visually (and hopefully acoustically too!).

P.S. Setting up perpendicular to the audience or at
an angle also works. This is sometimes necessary when
I am not the only modular performer on stage.
