The key word(s) here is "large cabinet".
The power supplies I use have been around since 1972. They are an "industry standard" size with
common terminals and mounting holes. There are 2 large companies that make these: Power-One and
Condor. I use the Power-One because it has a higher "build quality".
These supplies are available all over the world. They are big and heavy. So, if you are building
a "large cabinet", and you want to power many modules of all types, then buy the HCAA-60W-A model
(about $85 if you shop around). I will make a MOTM-980 Power Distribution board that has all the
needed connectors.
There are several reasons why I don't provide a "front panel remote" power switch:
a) volume/cost. The demand is probably less than 20/yr.
b) tooling/cost. I'd have to make up another set of AC wiring sets, and I have to order a min. of
50 sets.
c) it's not ∗that∗ big of a deal. Really! I rear-mount my supply, and use a power strip to turn
it off and on.
d) safety issues due to the fact I sell kits. Having all the wiring "self-contained" on a
MOTM-900 module means that I can control exactly how it's done. Every cabinet will have different
depths/different power supplies. Then there is the 120/240V issues, etc. I have to assume that
∗no one∗ can wire up AC, even though there are many folks that can. But I am in the ∗liable∗
position, not you :) There are 100's of UL issues on AC wiring that I have covered in the
MOTM-900 kit, even though it ∗appears∗ like hardly anything is there at all.
I like nice big cabinets, too. But they are just not practical from a shipping/stocking
standpoint (for me).
