As far as the MOTM grid goes, I lookedinto this when doing my DIY panel for the Diode Waveshaper. What I found was that the 1U and 2Upanels don’t have many options for improvement. Cram in more knobs, and they have to beextremely tight, like on the Encore UEG. These are a little too small for mytastes. Possibly you could fit inmoderate sized knobs in a 2x5 grid, but you wouldn’t have any room lefton the sides for anything except LEDs. You could fit 5x2rows of jacks on the bottom, but usually 2 more jacks doesn’t make adifference.
The DIY panel ended up being 3U. Only then could an alternate grid evenbegin to work. You could say that the MOTM 1U and 2U panels are ideally sizedfor the MOTM grid.
I personally liked the layout of the Evos modular. Ithad some of this large/small knob thing going. But that guy never shippedanything.

On these evenings, all of the discussions of grids, order, even priceare
meaningless. I just want this monolith to have personality, tonudge me
without moving.I want symmetry, and asymmetry; I want something organic.
Statictension, dynamic composition.
So how wouldrearranging the MOTM grid accomplish this? Who knows, maybe it
won't. ISAID I was being 'Zen,' today! All of the stuff we discussed about
the grids, labeling, dividers, colors, etc. are absolutely important...
_sometimes_.Other times it's not.
One thing'sfor sure: it would add another dimension to the ongoing layout
arguments! For those who enjoy that idea, it's a good thing; for others,
it's aconcept to be avoided like the plague.
Now that youall think I'm nuts, please go out and buy a couple of blue
lights foryour studio. You'll see, you'll see.
