Subject: Re: [motm] Five level slanted rack

I have some thoughts on the subject I will share. I just finished my bottom
2 row cabinet (maybe similar to your bottom two rows in your 5 row). I used
15 degrees as the angle. I am very happy with that choice as it gives me a
nice deep base of 16" at the bottom and 11" at the top. Here are some
photos of the unfinished cabinet at the bottom of my cabinet page:

But, since I left room for the magic busses, 16" and 11" would yield a
different angle for you.

For certain (IMHO) you don't want the same angle for the top rows as the
bottom. Synth of Doom is not symmetrical. If you do that, they look top
heavy. Look at some of the Synth.com photos for 5 rows with a bottom
cabinet upside down on top of the middle straight cabinet. The top cabinet
looks too big.

I'm trying to figure out the best panel angles for a five row modular
cabinet with slanted top and bottom panels(rows 1,2,4 and 5). It will
look something like the Synth of Doom Analog Heaven T-shirt image.
I'm going to do it with the MOTM rack rails though and split the
synth in half for increased portability. Yahoo's archive search
doesn't pull up much with the things I've typed in to try to look up
this topic. I know it's been discussed before. Any input at this
stage would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Peter B.
