Peanut gallery comment: I remember somewhere Carlos stated that to
achieve those fast ornamented lines on the Moog, the part was played
at half tempo, an octave down, and with the tape recording at half
speed. (As such, when the tape was played at normal speed the desired
tempo and pitch resulted.) I don't recall the exact reasons - but the
Moog modular did have difficulty with the fast playing. I'm trying to
remember where I read this - it might have been in the booklet that
comes with the Switched on Boxed Set.
Carlos used half speed recording on some of the really fast parts like 32nd
note runs and such and maybe a few other place. He/she noted that things
such as trills were a little akward to play on a monophonic (and clunky)
keyboard and they, like most other stuff, were done and normal recording
speed. Perhaps Carlos' keyboard worked in single-trigger mode instead of
multi-trigger. It's easy to do really fast trills on the MOTM with
multi-trigger. Just continuously hold down one note and trill with a second
finger, just as a violinist does.
