Subject: SKB pop up case back pricing / ordering

OK, I have firmed up the price on the backs that several have inquired about
for their MOTM systems housed in the SKB pop up mixer case.
Here is the scoop. I "plan" to make these available. I am now accepting
orders. IF, I get enough orders to make up the metal shop minimum for these
pieces, this project will fly. If not, it won't, simple enough. So, order
now. But, I won't invoice you until I see that the orders are sufficient.
I plan to make 3 different parts. All will be constructed of 18 gauge
(0.040") thick steel (about twice as thick as a Stooge Bracket). So, they
will be substantial rather than flimsy. They will be coated inside and out
with a professional black powder-coat finish (like the rack rails, not as
pretty as front panels, but VERY durable).
The parts will be:
10U tall back cover (sides and back closed - open at top and bottom)
5U tall back cover (sides and back closed - open at top and bottom)
Top and / or bottom screw on cover
So, if you want the top close, buy a back and top. If you want the top and
bottom closed, buy the back and two top covers (it will fit to the top or
bottom and will attach with 4 screws) The covers can be butted up together
in case you want 15U or 20U for another style rack.
Attachment will be with regular rack screws to the rack rail. I have tried
this on SKB the pop-up and it works fine. You simply insert another SKB
keeper nut and use a short # 10 screw to attach form the back. OR, you can
add longer screws to the rack rail mountings, and install a thumb nut from
the rear. Holes will be provided in all the right places for both methods.
In both cases, the back can be removed without disturbing the MOTM modules.
For guys with tall stand up racks with open backs. these will work fine
with those if they have rack rails that are threaded on the back side. But,
beware that the back will be "deeper" but the depth of your rack rail since
these are specifically designed to screw to the back of the front rail of
the SKB cases (and accounting for the thickness of the nut).
Prices: 10U back $25. 5U back $20. Top or bottom cover $5. Shipping
not included. Shipping will be a bit salty on these. I will not know
exactly how much until I have one in my hand. I am going to guess about $15
for a 10U back and cover. They are too big for a free priority box, so the
expenses will be a bit higher.
One final note: Please be aware that even with a top and bottom, your SKB
back cover will not be 100% sealed. The SKB case has a small tab that stops
the rack rail (top of frame) at the level point when closing the case. I
have to make a cut out at the top of the back (and in the top) to miss this
tab. So there will be a slot at the top about 3/4" down and 3 inches wide
to miss that tab. Blame SKB. :)
Only you will decide if this happens or not.
