Hey Larry,
This sounds great!
While you're pricing the Magic Buss, you might want to see if your machine shop will drill them for you at a somewhat reasonable price. I wonder if it's possible to have some way of allowing connections to be made from the back of the buss which wouldn't require soldering, thereby allowing easier reconfiguration of the buss?
As for me, I'd immediately get a two row slanted lower cabinet, and a reverse slated upper cabinet (and get a two row straight cabinet in the future) -- all with the full compliment of flat rails and Magic Buss -- unless you make a "Synth of Doom" style cabinet <hint>.

Hey Larry, any thoughts about actually making these
available to the general public?
Absolutely. Here are my thoughts, that will adjust to whatever
interest you guys suggest. Many options:
1 - All information about the magic bus will be freely placed in the puiblic
domain. It is constructed from material you can obtain at your local home
improvement center. So, if you can operate a drill, you too can have a
magic bus 100% & completely DIY. And, old Stooge Larry doesn't make dime. I
will sell offical gold pated magic bus trademark name plates for $10,000
each (if there is any interest). <snicker>
2 - If you want your own custom configured magic bus painted to match MOTM
panels (as mine is), I can get that done for you at anytime we are making
panels. You pay shipping both ways, I make a couple of bucks on top of what
the painter charges me to paint it. This can include a lot of different
metal items of your choice.
3 - I can custom cut to length, have painted, and sell the magic bus with no
holes for you to configure to suit yourself
4 - I can do the same thing with the holes in it at regular jack spacing
intervals like mine. But, the price will be MUCH higher if I have to drill
all them dang holes.
Regarding cabinets. I am trying to work up a deal with the cabinet guy that
is doing mine for a contract price to construct a variety of designs:
- Design 1 would be like the one you currently see at my web site. 1 row,
24U wide, magic bus below.
- Design 2 (currently under construction for me) is 2 rows tall slant
cabinet to go under the one I have now. One row of magic buss with each row
of modules.
- Design 3: two rows like design 2 but a straight cabinet like design 1.
It's for those that cannot get buy on just one row of straight.
- Design 4: 1 row reverse slant for the very top cabinet. This would give
you that ergonomic slant back appearance like the top row of Dave Bradley's
Synth of Doom. One row only on the top slant. Otherwise someone might
mistake you for Synth.com fom the side. Geesh is that ugly with the 2 row
upside down on the top or what ??
All cabinets would be built to house a magic bus below each row of modules.
However, the magic buss would be a separate item. And, I am not doing the
wiring. That is unique enough that each person needs to do their own.
I have not firmed up a deal yet, but the wood cabinet only, no hardware, no
wiring will be in the $200-225 per row price range (about the same as a
synth.com cabinet). There will be MUCH more about this after serial # 001
(mine) gets done and the cabinet guy tells me firm prices on making more.
