I agree, life sometimes does suck and compassion is necessary. However, the
meaning of compassion is "deep sympathy" or "pity." That's not what I was
talking about. You can show someone compassion, but still hold them
responsible in the long run.

Compassion for one's personal life might allow someone to get away with
something (for a while) that wouldn't otherwise be tolerated, but there are
limits.

You might have "compassion" for a bank robber because he is poor and trying
to feed his kids, but what about when he kills your wife because she didn't
want to give up her diamond ring? The person's actions are the overriding
factor, and always should be.

I think Todd learned that the silent treatment doesn't work. Hopefully if
there is every trama in his life again, he will remember how this affected a
lot of people and if he is in the midst of dealing with people (like
everyone is most of the time) he will try harder to keep those relationships
and activites going.

I know of several engineers that are very poor at people skills. I would say
they are smarter than me (which isn't too terribly difficult) be I am the
one that always has a steady stream of work. Why? Because I don't drop the
ball (very often) Yes, I mess up once in a while, but to most companies, I
communicate very well even when things aren't going great. (Try telling you
boss you missed yet another "deadline") Shit happens (I'm going through a
bunch of it right now actually) and for me that's why some of my projects
are extremely delayed. However, I try and be as truthful as I can (with
whatever knowledge I have obtained at the time I make a particular
statement) and people APPRECIATE that.

I really hope Todd sails through the stormy weather he's had recently.

That's all...

Tony
