Subject: RE: [motm] [OT] Wavemakers synthesizer web site

I’ve spent a little bit of time withthe 308 Triple Bandpass Filter and 245 Quad VCA.  The filter is a very nice configuration, with selection between bandpass or continuousselection between lowpass, notch and highpass for each node.  In addition it has “lap generators”(scanners) on the frequency modulation and mix controls, so that adds to theinterest level.  At first glance theQuad VCA looks pretty interesting, but there isn’t anything you couldn’tdo better with the long promised MOTM 130 Dual VCA, or two of them, at least.

I received a guided tour of the Wavemakers4.  It was desperately in need ofrepair, but still had some life in it. This may be the most powerful pre-patched or patch-over-hard-wiresynthesizer ever made.  There was anawesome audio feedback path going one with just three patch cords.  I tried duplicating something similar onmy MOTM system and quickly used up all my multiples and dozens of patchcords.  It made me realize just howuseful a matrix mixer would be.  Itried duplicating the patch on the softsynth Reaktor and it crashed.  These softsynthstypically cannot handle feedback paths, one more good reason to stay analog.

Nice work John!  I had never even heard of this synth brandbefore.  Quite a
nice look to it, and no doubt it speaksquality.  The blue Wavemaker 4 is a
knockout.  The documents are a wealth of info- it's always interesting to
see another perspective on a user interface. I guess it reminds me a little
of an EML, with it's large form factor and variousknobs.  But unlike an
EML, you never see these on ebay!  Did youget to use one?  If so, what were
your thoughts?
