Sorry for the long OT, but it kinda applies...
My mistake, i meant to type 3.01 but that zero key doesn't want to work for me... i had osx and downgraded for 2 reasons, #1 DP3 won't run under it, nor will the PCI-324 card interface (which is the card that runs all the MOTU interfaces except for the firewire ones) and #2, I like the idea of DP3 (and it's plugins) being the only resources allowed to access multiprocessing, it keeps the operating system from running stupid things like disklight or other useless processes on the 2nd processor leaving it 100% available for DP3, unless there is a significant difference in a new version running on osx, i think i'll stay with os 9.2. that's just my opinion. on a completely
different topic, someone else was mentioning about running audio on a PC. up until last year i would've rather been shot than own a mac, I worked in an MIS environment for 8 years and was a very loyal pc user and owner. I was rather upset with the performance of my audio hardware on the pc. i found there were all sorts of hardware incompatibilities, the speed of the PCI bus was an issue, I couldn't get my computer to properly recognize my hardware (cubase only saw 8 stereo pairs instead of 24 mono channels) what audio i could get into the machine had horrible clicks and pops in it, tons of noise, etc. (and this was a dual processor pentium 3 800Mhz machine with 2GB of
physical memory and an ultra160 storage system) rather than spend forever trying to fix the problem (i spent about a month on it) i broke down and bought a mac (used) and have been completely happy ever since. i hate to admit it, but it looks like the majority of audio hardware/software (pro) out there is being built for macs. i can record 24 channels simultaneous without any problems whereas the faster pc has trouble with 8 channels. for a pc loyalist, i've been won over (for audio at least.) any questions, email me privately so paul doesn't get pissed at us. -nate
