Ken, Synth of Doom uses butt joints with biscuits for the top->side
and bottom->side joints, and mitered edges with biscuits for the top
and bottom 'slant' front pieces. You could easily do a blind mortise
with plywood. Forget a dovetail.

Hmmm. I also had an original CX-3, and I was SURE that it was
veneered. Can you see the bottom edges of the top case if you remove
the bottom?
