My first thought is that it sounds like putting a gate detector placed after
a reverb unit which is being fed a single tight impulse. Not that this would
"literally" work, but it's almost like detecting the reflections as they
compound.

Anybody seen "Mouse Hunt"? Remember the scene with all the mousetraps in one
room? (Hang with me, I'm getting there...) The first mousetrap is triggered,
and that triggers two or three others, and those....and you get this whole
"scatter" effect of mousetraps going off on an random exponential curve
until they're all done.
I want a module that will do THAT with trig/gate signals - or even audio
signals. One trigger input, and then a "roomful of mousetraps" effect until
a definable number of output events is spent. Better yet, would work both
forwards or in reverse.
Make any sense? Seems a little like a modification of granular synthesis for
CV signals, but not quite.
