Don't know how well this will apply to you, but I removed the old wall
outlets and replaced them with 3 prongers. The ground I needed happened to
already be hooked up to the mount casing of the old outlets and my newly
installed sockets are all 100% grounded and up to par. The 6 outlet adapter
will only ground to the current sockets if they are mounted in grounded
enclosures within the wall. Mine works great BTW. Otherwise it might be/show
a false ground and you will be no better off! It sure is intimidating to
turn off the power to the whole house and still touch the wires bare handed
(even knowing they're dead) Good luck,

This is exactly what I did in my house. Built in 1945, all of the outlets in
the main area of the house were ancient 2-prongers. Rather than fiddle with
adapters everywhere, I just replaced the wall plates with "modern" ones and
jacked in my wiring checking tool, which shows that everything is wired and
grounded properly.
However, since doing that, I have read in several places (and I thought, not
long ago, on this list), that this is a horrendous thing to do. While it
hasn't caused any obvious problems for me yet, I have been planning a
service and wiring upgrade to my house before disaster strikes.
