Subject: RE: [motm] new encore modules

I think it's great. The design isn't set in stone yet. We're actually paying
very close attention to comments made at NAMM before finalizing these
designs.

As far as the Expressionist 2 goes, the s/w hasn't even been started yet. To
give you a general overview, it's going to have every possible feature the
original Expressionist has + the features slated for the upcoming
Expressionist update + new features which are only suitable for the new
style outputs - features that aren't possible because of the reduced channel
count. HUH!???

I've been planning an update to the Expressionist for something like two
years. Because of the need to actually make money, I haven't done it yet
(actually a version does exist, but it's not a public release) More LFO,
shapes, gate decoupling, better note history buffers, etc.

That will get worked out on the original Expressionist and release and then
the whole thing will get ported to the new Expressionist. These will
partially occur at the same time.

The new one will only have one polygroup, but it will still be flexible as
the ones in the original Expressionist. Yes, you could assign any 4 voices
to that, and have two "pairs" or 4 independant CVs left of for other stuff.

I'd like to see a bezel too. I'll be looking into them in a month or so.

Yes the PCB is flat behind the metal like the UEG. It's packed with SMD and
there is a jack PCB with a different height (obviously) which attached with
ribbon cables. The three controls are rotary encoders (no more buttons)
which should help in the UI dept.

Added MIDI access from the back is a good idea. I can easily leave a header
or some other accomodation for this for users to "have at it"

Labeling "can" change. I have a line that ties the pairs together. I was
hoping that would be enough of an indicator. Everyone is free to comment on
all of this stuff. I'm listening. This is a proto only, in fact the one at
the show doesn't work yet, but I wanted to finally announce it so people
know what to expect and to allow them time to offer suggestions. The logo
was put there because it was a NAMM unit. I'm not sure exactly how the panel
graphics will end up. With such a tiny market, little companies need every
bit of recognition we can get. Your comment is noted. However, it won't
disappear entirely!

I've come to the conclusion that all Encore MOTM-style units will have small
pots and small knobs. They immediately tell people it's an Encore product
and that's important to me. Well at least until Paul starts using small
knobs!! Besides that, I've got a billion of 'em. I've got two more
MOTM-style products that won't be announced at NAMM (too far out) and each
of them use a lot of knobs.

The frequency shifter: it...uh...how do I say...shifts frequencies!!
There's lot's of info out there about them. The pots are small because the
board is packed with parts. 6 BIG pots wouldn't fit. I'll be able to offer
you a lot more info when I return from NAMM.

I'm trying to get ready for NAMM so I gotta run. See some of you there!
