What kind of tweeters are in the M1's?? That's not typical for near fields.
Typically the woofers go, and it's a common practice to add fuses or keep a
spare bass driver. Although, using subwoofers is getting more and more
popular.

Otoh, I have a pair of Allison home stereo speakers in which I've had to
replace a tweeter six times.

Don't the Mackies have EQ switches?? Maybe the switches were switched.
