It's an excellent EG for generating envelopes that are impossible on most
analogue synths, and with its TCV input it is also an oscillator that is
voltage controllable. While it is far better suited as an LFO, it can
produce sound. Of course, the pitch of these noises doesn't follow the
voltage in any melodic way and it is very limited in range. For the most
part, it's designed to be a super EG and complex LFO, but like the Serge
and EML stuff, the Encore UEG can be abused in numerous other ways,
although I'm still trying to figure out a way to send audio through it :)

It's also a simple 8∗1 step sequencer where the TCV input, Slope switch,
and Time knobs have no effect.

It can also be used as a sequencer in Loop mode, allowing you to have notes
of different lengths. Then you can apply a teeny bit of voltage to the TCV
(which increases the length of every "step") to get this sequencer loop to
fit one or more bars, and use the differentiator-to-trigger converter
posted on Larry's site to produce triggers at the beginning of each note to
drive an 800 or another synthesizer.

My only complaint at this point is that the Trigger out has no function in
Loop mode (which only goes from stages 2-7) or any output unless stage 8 is
reached. However, if you mult the trigger output, patch it into the gate
input, and set it to One Shot, you can get an LFO synced 1:1 to a trigger.
If you want the LFO to be slower than the trigger you can send the trigger
to the gate input in Step mode, and smooth the output with an 820.

All things considered, if I could only own two MOTM modules, I'd pick the
UEG and 820, well, at least until the VC Pulse Divider :)
