I've been meaning to write something similar. I got "Bestiary" in the
mail on Sept. 12. Somehow, every time I tried to listen to it in the
first few weeks, it just seemed the wrong thing. Now I'm no weeny
when it comes to "difficult" music, but, after all the terrible
events, I was just in a phase where the kind of darkness "Bestiary"
presents was not a place I wanted to be. So it's only been recently
that I've really given it the listen it deserves. And it is an
amazing disc. Rich has always had a terrific ability to blur the
distinction between electronic and acoustic instruments, his use of
electronics has a wonderful organic quality, and he avoids the
obvious. It was cool to recognize the "talking" patch from the web
site, had I not known the source, I probably would have guessed that
processed voice was the source of that sound. Anyway, I really have
to thank Paul for sending out this disc, it's become a favorite of
mine.
