Subject: Progress on stooge panels

From: "J. Larry Hendry" <jlarryh@...>
Date: 2001-07-07

I apologize for the bandwidth for those of you that do not have stooge
panels on order. However, 60 of you do, so mailing to the list was the
easiest way to do this. If you have panels on order, please read carefully.

First let me say that we are getting very close to done with this project
which has grown exponentionally since it was started. While Moe and I were
expecting about 60 to maybe 80 panels to be ordered, some things caused that
to change significantly
1. The popularity of the my 822 module
2. The continued popularity of John Blacet's
Dark Star and Time Machine.
3. The announcement for the Blacet Miniwave
4. Todd's efforts to "kit up" the Oakley 410 add on

The demand for panels increased to over 250. Many more than expected. Two
things have significantly slowed progress.
1. The metal shop promised 4 weeks delivery and delivered in 9 weeks.
2. The painter got sloppy with the texture on the panels. So, I had to
send about 3/4 of the panels back for repaint. They just did not pass my
quality inspection. I know you guys expect the best, and Moe and I are
trying to deliver.

The good news is that the painter is now finished with the repaint (I got a
note from him today). The screener is back from his trip to Alaska and I
will be shipping the blank panels to him in the middle of next week. So,
progress is being made, but at a pace much slower than I had hoped for.

Keeping track of who wanted what, billing, who has paid what and etc. has
proven to be a daunting task. Many of you have sent me mail during this
process asking to "add this or that" to your order since your original order
was placed. That is understandable since these new modules have become
available. I hope I have done a good job of tracking all of that. But,
just in case I messed something up, I plan to spend all of today going
through everyone's e-mail requests, and double checking against what I have
you down for. I will send each of you a private e-mail over the next 2 or 3
days with confirmation of how I have your order as of today. Please let me
know if you see any errors or omissions.

Concerning 822 and 831 orders: It is all in stock and ready to ship and has
been for some time. I have been waiting on panels fronts.

Concerning the new Blacet Miniwave. If you have ordered one of these panels
AND have ordered DRILLING services, please be aware that these will not be
shipping until AFTER John Blacet starts shipping modules. It would be silly
for Moe or I to try to drill the panels without having the kit from John to
be sure we have it correct. I ordered my kit from John on the first day of
availability for pre-orders. So, I hope to be among the first to be
shipped.

E-mail me if you have questions. Expect your confirmation notice soon. If
you have a balance due on your invoice, I will need for you to pay that
prior to shipping. I hope that will be around the end of this month.

A word on flat rails: They are in process. I will let people know when
they are ready to ship. I am not taking orders until I have them IN MY HAND
ready to ship. The metal shop raised the price slightly because I only
ordered 500. My original price was based on 1000. When I added up the
totals from e-mail of all those that expressed interest it only came to
about 350. They will have the same black power-coat finish as Paul's rack
rails. More on that later (hopefully after this other stuff is all shipped).

Thanks again to everyone for their patience. I have learned greatly from
this experience and will be better prepared next time.

P.S. Someone (I don't know who) has my work telephone number and has called
at work while I was on vacation (and talked to my boss). Whoever it is,
PLEASE don't do that any more. If you want to call me at home, feel free to
call before 10PM (eastern STANDARD time). Yep, we don't go on Daylight time
here. E-mail me and I will send you my number privately.
