true confessions of Doepfer users from the Doepfer site...

"Now, going to those MOTM modules: they're built like a tank! The front
panels are thick, with beautiful baked-on finish, very Moog-like. In my
opinion, the best modules are the vco's (very stable, great sound) and vca's
(built-in ring modulator). The adsr's are nice, but I wish they were
voltage-controlled. The multimode filters are cool, with 3 audio inputs and
FM (a little noisy, though). The triple resonator sounds incredible. The new
LP filter sounds promising (not yet available, though). I think of these
modules as a high-quality version of Moog (they look gorgeous). I don't know
how they compare with Technosaurus sound-wise (I'm not impressed with the
latter's web site demo), but looks-wise, they beat all currently available
modulars by a mile (personal opinion, of course!). Again, I wish they had a
bigger selection. Another problem is the turnaround time after ordering
them: Paul Schreiber, owner and sole company employee, is currently doing
this as a "hobby", so his real job obviously takes priority. He is an
extremely nice and knowledgeable fellow; give him a call or check his
website (synthtech.com)."

My FM inputs are NOT noisy at all. I am not sure what this guy is referring
to. And Paul has always had a team of people helping him directly or
indirectly. (Shemp)

Ah! Found out what he meant...

"Now, as for the MOTM filters: I must clarify what I wrote: the noise I
refered to is actually related to the resonance: with the cutoff at about
40-50%, if you start cranking up the resonance, it may abruptly go from no
audible Q to a harsh, glassy and loud resonance (careful with your
speakers!!). According to Paul Schreiber, this is a feature he deliberately
added to the filter, in an effort to emulate the filter of the Korg MS-20,
so it is not necessarily a bad thing!! In fact, it's great for rude,
aggressive lead lines.. just don't try any ambient, soothing patches with
it. They have no audible hums or clicks, though. I love using two of them in
series (one in LP mode, the other one in HP) to get a bandpass one. I
suggest you listen to the demos on Paul's website."
