When I used to rock n' roll with a band which used a lot of pyro, we
built flash pots which were nothing more than 2 screw terminals with
an AC cord attached. Instead of buying special trigger wire, we would
make our own by taking zip wire and unravelling it to use a single
strand of thin copper. The 120v was enough to pop it every time,
without blowing breakers. Of course, you can fry yourself if you wire
it up and it's still plugged in. Dangerous!
