On the subject of "electronic music", I just picked up "Archive Tapes Synthesizer ANS
(1964-1971)"-- music created on the Russian ANS synthesizer. If you're into that old skool e lectronic sound, this is crucial listening. On Electroshock Records--manufactured in Sweden!!
On whether analogue is played out: let's think about it. Analogue synths began in the
'50's (roughly) & ended (the first time) in the '80's. I don't think 30 years is enough time
for the exploration of the potentials of a new instrument--either in the playing or the
technological development. I think it's great that folks are digiing in & developing anew
because I think there are fresh sonic depths to be plumbed.
Here's my view of the future: the next great revolution will be a synthesis of the digital
and analogue in a way that hasn't even been glimpsed yet (I'm talking about a lot more than music here, but not excluding music at all.) If you look at a television or a record player or an analogue modular--these are brilliant devices. But so are computers & cd players. Now when the two are mixed just right (much in the manner that Reese's
mixes peanut butter & chocolate)--there will be the next huge paradigm shift.
