I do wonder why Dave Simmons never made any 'cymbals', it seems odd.
Hi Paul ,
do you really know the Simmons ?
It has been Dave's obsession for a long time ...
The 1st cymbal had been made for the SDSV (with the famous pyramid pad that you can notice on the Yes 9012 Tour), the SDS7 had some too , both were an Eprom technology (about the SDSV ; for HH & cymbals sounds of course not the analog part ..) !
& Then the SDX with the moving Zone Intelligent pads & a choke area to stop the sound... 9 Multisampled cymbals ' sounds per pad sampled 16 bits & 44khz....
It seems funny that not many people seem to be doing this now, I mean
triggering samples and stuff from their drum kits..
but paul... nearly each professional Drummer has a DDrum trigger on snare & bass Drum & is triggering some studio snares samples or whatever ...
But it's true we don't see anymore pads' forest around the kit ...the look changed...but did the reality really changed ...?
The other fact is that most of drummers are playing over loops now so they don't need triggering many sounds as we did 15 years ago where we did some sort of live loops... The all Drumkit 's role in the contemporary arrangements changed ...
By the way, I looked quickly at the Simmonssynths site , if you allow me , I think the SDSV was released as a basic 5 piece kit expandable to 6 or 7 modules,
I don't think you could buy the brain with 3 modules in it without asking a special order(even so )...
but if your information is sure I will have learnt something more on Simmons ...
anyway , hope that helps & good luck for your quest !
Patrice.
