Anyone know who owns
Simmons? If they agree, I might consider putting them back up.

Hi ,
the answer is in the question ; Dave SImmons of course ....
you will hardly be in contact with Dave as he isn't easily contactable...

If someone is making business with SImmons products or anything , that is his own right at his own risk ...

I think , you do whatever you want with your eproms, noone can tell you anything except Dave himself .
& I would be very surprised if he would ...unless you' re opening a billion dollars market...

The guy who is selling some Eproms is giving us an opportunity to find some & having some cash in exchange...
It's great that he does it for people ready to pay & who badly want this or this sound ... I wonder if they're a lot in that profile !?
but it's great some people are talking about swapping too !!!
We are some "disappearing dynausaurus" with our SImmons units, we need to join the "Simmons Sect" !

About the SDS1000 eproms ,
they should fit in SDS7 & SDS9 as well ...

Are the Samples on CDs the same case that any Simmons ' sound library ?
personally I doubt,
as a typical dedicated library is only available for the Unit it was made for , it's not the same market than Samples made for several format...
It makes the library unique compared to something that you can find on both PC , Mac or AKAI etc... samplers ...
I suppose it makes the SDS7 library or even more the SDX unique machines with some unique SOUND !!!

Hope that helps in your thoughts !
Bye,
Patrice.

Strictly they belong to whoever own the rights to Simmons
I suppose. They were the data from original Simmons
EPROMs.

I'm not sure if that's true. Don't know the full details of the case, but
there's a difference between making a sample of a recording and
copying the exact data from an EPROM. The first is an approximation
or impression, the second is an absolute copy.

If they're just put up on a website that does not give anyone who
downloads them a license to use them, so I'm currently trying to
find out who does own the rights to them. Anyone know who owns
Simmons? If they agree, I might consider putting them back up.

I agree, but it made me reconsider the copyright issues, if
people are going to download them and use them on
(commercial) recordings.

I may put the SDS1000 EPROM up eventually as that's really
a repair part, only suitable for an SDS1000 (four samples).
Any any SDS1000 owner has has already paid for the product
and presumably is licensed to use the sample. I don't think
that should offend anyone.

I'll scan the SDS1000 info when I have time. It includes the
MIDI upgrade.
