Hi Adam
Earlier this year I did some research to make copies of the voice board to fill up my SDS7.
My conclusion, Curtis chips and PCB alone would set me back the same amount of money that I paid for my second hand Doepfer A-111-5. So that is what I did, grabbed yet another Doepfer voice. They are great for n-TET tuned percussive sounds, something SDS7 can’t really do without modification.
To my ears the sample player are the least interesting part of the SDS7 voice to copy. The artefacts is has are not really that desirable, and if I wanted to color a sound with it I could just burn an e-prom and take hi resolution samples from my SDS7 and use the samples with a modern sample player that utilize adjustable start/stop point and stretching. Already owning Octatrack and e few vintage EMU samplers of course had an impact on my decision here.
What’s makes the SDS7 sound desirable are the sum of all its parts. If you have a drawer full of original Curtis chips I say go for it, else you might get more great sounds out of your money and time elsewhere.
If you aim for the SDS7 sounds in a single portable voice you could make a controller to run one of your voice card to take on the road. I’ve documented enough information on my web page to get you started to write a simple program for a MCU board to adjust voice parameters. To my understanding Thierry Epherre has already done this a long time ago, sadly I was not able to get in contact with him to learn how he did it.
My plan is to use a Arduino board, Uno should do fine for simple control purpose, but I’m looking into do MIDI, sequencer and possible remote over Wi-Fi like the PG-800 controller I’m fiddling with… so little time for it all!
SDS7 schematic seems to usually be shared off list between members directly. It’s not mine to share as I got it from another active member on the list. It’s a reverse engineering work by Thierry Epherre.
Best to you

Emne: [Simmons Drums] Help with Schematics for SDS7 / SDS1?
Hello to all,
I'm new to the group - proud owner of an SDS7.
I'm getting help from Vangelis' 80s synth tech to create a standalone, single voice EPROM player / SDS clone (maybe for eurorack form?).
Can you guys share the schematics for the SDS7? Possibly the SDS1?
I'm reverse engineering a card from my SDS7 with my tech mentor in order to clone it, but he insists we need schematics to really make it work .. and he is a wizard so II trust him.
Any and all help is much appreciated!
Thanks to all!
