Subject: Re: [Simmons Drums] Simmons SDS-9 anywhere to get replacement pots?

Yes, that's a possibility, If the EPROMs don't have their windows covered,(they should have stickers on them) they could have been erased by ambient light over the years. although i'd expect them to make crunchy noise rather than silence unless theyd been left in sunlight for a long time and thus completly erased

with a blank eprom you should still get a little 'click' sound

if you have an eprom burner, you can read the eproms out into files then import them into your audio editor as 8bit unsigned RAW audio. that way you can see for sure if they are still good.

if the pcm channels are working but the eproms are dead then you should be able to use the noise generator anyway, and you should be able to get the filter to self resonate by turning the resonance all the way up.

do the trigger lights flash when you hit the pads or receive midi messages?

let us know if you find a source of pots, i-ve got a broken pot on my sds9 that needs replacing, fortunatly its the trigger sensitivity on one of the toms, and i trigger my sds9 via midi.

apart from the eproms being dead try resetting the sds9 internal memory(the magic sequence is hidden it the manual some place) the sds9 has a tendency to act like its broken untill you reset the memory when the internal battery is dead. if you look through the list archives, you'll see that most sds9 problems are caused by this. mine made some crazy sounds before i reset, some of which are impossible to obtain normally.

the sds9 does do a self test when you turn it on, if it fails it' scroll "Err" on the lcd it wont tell you what the problem is though. there is a special diagnostic ROM out there some place that tells you what the problem is. but i'm dammed if i can find a copy.  the self test only checks some things on the digital side.
