Chris, the shaft can be made as long or as short as necessary. Provided the wall-thickness of the knob where it fits onto the shaft is 1mm thick or greater these should be do-able.
The mock-up was just to see if I could reproduce the steps needed to build a CAD model. What size are the buttons across the front? 10mm? The size of a thumbnail?
I'm based in the UK BTW.
