Subject: Re: [Simmons Drums] views on spam

Your doing a fine job.  As far as deleting non-active members and overall cleanup that is good as long as any members who seem to be inactive are given the chance to stay on if they wish.  I suspect there are members who just monitor and those probably should stay on.  But the only way to find out is ask them.  No response or responses where they would not want to stay on should be deleted.  As far as clean up, do what makes your job easier or easiest.

I don’t see the need for any ads that do not pertain to the subject.

pictures are ok, but if that adds to your workload, don’t do it.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi list members - it's moderator hour! :)

I try to keep a good eye on this list. 99% of the communications flows
smoothly. The message below was a phishing attempt and I guess Darren's
account was hacked. He became a member in 2005 and hasn't been active in
recent times. I have thrown him out and deleted the message.

Most similar attempts are blocked effectively by the rule of moderation.
New members are moderated and I try to remove the moderation of active
members after a few months (the new system at Yahoogroups needs to be
managed manually) when they've proved they/you know their/your hexagons
and are here for the discussion and community.

Anyway, I'd like to throw a few questions in your direction:

1. Do we need to "clean up" the member list? There are MANY members not
receiving any mails, they're just members (including our list owner
Scott btw). The list would be easier to manage and I prefer a list with
active members instead of a list with hundreds of inactive members (we
are today 733 members and sorted by joining date I'm number 8, back in
2002). Circa 60-70% never even receive our mails.
2. Sometimes we see apologizes from new members when their first post is
an ad. Is this a problem? (I've let them pass this far, but would like
your views on this.)
3. There have been a very friendly mood on the list in recent times.
This is good news. Some of you may remember this hasn't always been the
case. (I and a few others took a lot of onlist and offlist beating last
time.) Am I doing an OK job here?
4. Adding pictures and similar on the website is fairly unmoderated. In
your opinion, does this work well? (or did I start something bad now by
pointing this out?!)

Let me know your views and feel free to come with honest feedback,
whine, praise, whatever...

Hexagonically yours, jesper
