I assumed that you had SDS9 pads.... my apologies. With those you simply unscrew the square headed Tension Rod from where it is located in the top of the pad. Use a drum Key and turn counter clockwise.. the rod should eventually come right out (unless it is stripped really bad... in which case you may need to pull up on the rod as you turn it to get it out.
If you have an SDS5 or any other pad that has the "T Handle" type clamp tightener mechanism, the same applies. Look for a stripped thread inside the T Handle or on the shaft it screws onto.
Sadly, I don't have any left but a stripped T Handle can likely be had from someone on this Forum if you ask nicely....
