Hi all, Happy holidays
I bought an SDS9 off eBay as part of a package deal, and with some help from you all, it appears to be working now. The unit came with a full set of pads and a rack, which I was hoping was a Simmons rack, but not so. I had assumed I would be getting SDS9 pads, but it looks like more of a mix. With help from simmonsmusuem, I think I have identified them as SDS9 kick and two SDS9 pads, and two SDS8 pads. I do have two questions:
The manual indicates the SDS9 snare pad has a grey playing surface. Both seems to be dark grey with age. However, one pad has a grey insert in the ‘O’ in SIMMONS on the playing surface. The other has a black insert. Does this indicate the snare? Is the manual incorrect, or is the pad from a different set?
The SDS8 pads (or perhaps SDS200/400/800) are difficult to trigger, even with sensitivity turned all the way up. Is this because of defect, or are they electrically different than the SDS9 pads, and not very suitable for use with the SDS9? The resistor, I suppose.
If they are defective, I should like to restore them, however, if that is normal, I’d like to keep them stock, as plan on picking up a SDS8 or SDs800, as I think it will better suit my needs.
Thanks,
Sam
