Thanks for the responses - just thought it might be a common known problem that I could give the tech a heads up on when I took it to him (I was never considering attempting to fix it myself). Battery was replaced in 2007 - power supply was also converted from 110v to 220v, will be going back to the tech who did the conversion. Will update when I know what the problem is.
Cheers,
Ken.

What I can add to the conversation is that it obviously has a dead short somewhere in the unit causing the fuse to blow. If the unit has an internal memory battery in it, it may have leaked and caused damage to the board causing a dead short, or it could be an issue with the power supply unit inside, or a burned resistor, or...., but these are just random guesses. As stated before, without opening it up and visually inspecting it and checking some values, its near impossible to give you a starting point. If you don't have any electronics experience or knowledge, I would leave it to a pro. You'll be better off in the long run.
