Forgive the heresy, but if you're gigging and price-sensitive I would
seriously consider the Pearl Drum-X. It's analogue, has 8 presets, sounds
VERY good, and is 100% road-worthy. If I was gigging, I would either go
that route or use an e-Mu sampler. And of course you can use Simmons pads
with the Drum-X, to get the look ;-) What the Drum-X lacks is proper hi
hats and cymbal. Also, it can't do all the wonderful digital mangling that
the SDS7 can. In most ways, it competes directly against the SDS8/800
although the SDS has knobs for real-time tweaking (cool for the studio)
while the Drum-X allows you to program and recall presets (cool for
gigging).

Sorry if I offend anyone!
