Yes, I did. Concerning the dynamic response Simmons pads, no matter if they are SDS5, SDS9 or Hexaheads cannot compete with any Roland pad of their current generation. If you are fine with less dynamic range than it will work for you (as good or bad as it worked 25 years ago). For the particular purpose of playing VST drums I pimped a set of SDSV pads using Mesh heads:
