Subject: Painted SDSV Shells

Hello, all:
I just got a set of SDSV pads. The shell of the kick pad is red, but the snare/tom pads have been painted white on the outside. Looks like a spray can job, and pretty awful at that. There are scratches in the paint so that I can see that all the tom pads were originally red, which I confirmed by removing the shells. The question is, does anyone here have any suggestions for removing the white paint without damaging the shells? I'm sure at least a couple of you have dealt with this before. Pretty crazy that anyone would want to cover up red shells.
Thanks,
Jim Stewart
