Bass and similar sometimes surface on Ebay. It's worse with hihat and
cymbal.

Simmons were british. Enough said? Why make something standard when you
can wire it differently. So, the xlr's are probably OK. I always have to
double check before saying anything, but it's non-standard so surf the
web for a description. I _think_ Dave and friends partly did this to
avoid mixing the cables and wrecking outputs with inputs etc. But it
might be that they're just pritish. :D
