Well it depends what you mean by serious...but pretty sure yes ;-)...
I met him then (98) a few times because of some problems on my
SDX ... Bringing it from France to UK to make repairs, changing
FSRs...& to meet Dave of course...
Dave was working on the DrumX (the computer interface) then ...
Still building one or two SDX a year... selling some Hexaheads...here
or there... Turtletrap...Multimallet for schools ...distributing some
extras Multisamples soundbank for the SDX ...
Same sort of business he did since 1994 I suppose...
He was trying & working hard to save SoundUnit & making some money
again for other projects..
But that was depending of the DrumX success...(that hadn't time to
happen.)
He made (in between 93 & 98) about 5 XRack ...
I think it collapsed about the end of 98 or 99... I lost contact with
him for a few years then ...
But since 1993, Simmons Factory was only Dave (Designing , building ,
selling, answering to the phone, sending faxes , repairing, etc etc
etc ...) & Daphne Sear(assistant secretary) , a small office , a cold
workshop & a big Barn ...
He handly made or assembled everything he sold then ... building an
SDX would take him a few weeks (& eventually months)...
So since 93(& even before in fact ...) sadly, it wasn't at all what
happened in the eighties with the 120 people working in the St Alban
factory...
But it showed Dave's determination.
anyway ...
it's about more than ten years ago now...
hope that helps ;-)
Patrice.
