Well OK, I'll bottom line it here:
I bought a used external 100MB SCSI zip from a second hand store dirt cheap. It came in the original box with all the manuals along with a large selection of blank disks. Everything looks as if to be brand new. I found a used SCSI interface cable ( CN50 Male to DB25 Male ) to connect the drive to the back of the SDX at a computer parts store. The cable also appears to be new and even has a DB25 Female port at the back of the 50 pin connector to allow additional devices.
When I booted the SDX ( zip plugged in and power / LED on ) I only saw the floppy and HD on the screen. I tried every possible termination combination, but nothing worked. To further troubleshoot the situation I physically disconnected the HD to remove any possible conflicts between the HD & zip. Again, I tried every possible combination ( temination off, on, 5, 6, etc., etc., etc. ) and the SDX just does not "see" the drive nor is it giving me any indication of looking for it ( LED never blinks or flashes ).
I'm starting to think the drive itself or the cable is not working. I'm pretty sure I've tried everything I could with the SDX. I even tried a male to male DB25 cable to the extra port on the cable's extra connector. I'm probably going to proceed to find a mac somewhere to test the zip and cable.

What do you mean by media issue, what drive are you talking about ?
the floppy or the zip ?
I personnaly never had any problem with the Zips...It always had been
recognized at once...
the termination switch is behind the Zip Unit close to the ID ...
I guess the External Zip is always appearing like the last ID,
probably bc it's the last slot to plug in on the motherboard.
My Zip Id is 5 or 6...
can you check that you haven't got to ignore (again as usual with
the SDX...) messages & continue formatting process for example ?...
& yes the external drive has exactly the same use as the internal
one ...
When you change disk just ignore error messages (clicking on '' NEW "
for example ...).
