Subject: Re: [Simmons Drums] Bass Drum Triggering

I've had just about every trigger out there at one time or another and this has been my experience: Even though I never really had a problem or complaint about the surface noises of triggers versus the onslaught of my DW's, here's some ideas for the bass drum noise. The Roland KD-7 was very quiet. The inverted beater setup felt just fine to me. I just recently sold all of my Roland stuff though, so I cant address that anymore. I also had a F.A.T. Kat pedal where the trigger was a rubber puck that the foot plate would strike. An interesting concept and great backup trigger for live perfomances ( it had an in/out so you could have it in-line next to whatever you were using ! ).
Just a few days ago, I was thinking outside the bass drum. Why not have a beater on the pedal with the trigger BUILT INSIDE OF IT ?!?!? That would be really cool for acoustic drummers who want to also trigger sounds while still playing their normal drum. Or if you wanted you could attach it to a log for a real Flintstones type setup. That Barney Rubble, What an actor !!!
I also saw a silencer that attaches to the acoustic BD externally. I made a comment to the clerk about putting a trigger in there as well. He said he's known a few to have done this already. I anyone wants to know more about that product let me know and I'll call to find out exactly what it was and who manufactures it.
Gosh !! I just sold all of my AP Boom Theory/Spacemuffin stuff too with the 22" BD being the last to go: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290205096738 The new owner uses it as part of a Yamaha e-drum setup and absolutely loves it.
