Subject: Re: [Simmons Drums] SDSV cymbal pad

I still have 2 of these, but I don't play them. In the early days they were wired for use with SDSV, very interesting: They contained 2 diodes, a small capacitor and, of couse: two piezos. By playing the bell or the cymbal, you could have two different sounds out of one module (digital cymbal). Later they were wired for SDS7 use without the cap and diodes, because the cymbal of SDS7 had not the bell/cym feature.
The whole thing never worked properly, sad to say. The cympads rotated on the stand, a perfect hit was luck. I always attached the pads XLR plug with a piece of tape to the stand to stop the rotation. The impact noise was also very loud. You had to remove the cymbal stands rubber pipe, because the pads hole was to small, this meant metal on metal. More? Ok, the screw connection between bell and cym was also very bad, because simmons did not use stopnuts or even normal nuts. So sometimes the pad disassembled itself in the middle of the concert. So: It is a funny item, but only for collectors.
