Subject: The King is Dead

From: "Greg" <sovereigng@...>

On Thursday, August 16th we lost the legendary Max Roach. He died in
a NYC hospital at the age of 83. Truly, a great percussionist and one
of the bebop pioneers of the '40s. Many of you may not even have heard
of Max but if you google him there should be an endless list of audio
and video clips compiled from his nearly 70 years as a professional
musician. He was nothing short of brilliant and nothing short of
inspirational.
Oh, and he became a Simmons user after attending a King Crimson
concert. He was so impressed with Brufords playing and the new
percussion sounds he was using in the show. World famous Mannys Music
in NYC still has a photo of him trying out a kit before buying one.

Farewell to one of my heroes and a fellow Brooklynite.
