Ive never looked inside a SDS8, but in the SDS5 each voice card has little trimmers to set the factory sound (aside from the 3 channels on the front) , you can make the factory sound to be whatever you want it to be. are there trimmers inside the sds8?

Well, it ∗does∗ make some sounds, but only the tone, not the noise
component. Plus amp output is ∗very∗ noisy, one side only, and quiet at
that. Kick drum preset comes out as a low quiet "crack...le", preset
snare is inaudible but switch to "user" and you can get the tone at
least. Preset toms are a ∗very∗ low pitched short quiet "bloh" sound.

If I wasn't a grown up I'd be having a cry about now...mmmmwaaaaaaaH!
