Subject: SDS-8 vs. SDS-V

I'm very new to Simmons drums but I'm looking to incorporate some
vintage Bruford/Collins/Peart-type sounds into my percussion arsenal.
I'm hoping to find an SDS-V, but the apparent wider availability of
the SDS-8 raises two questions:

1)Is the SDS-8 an analog unit?

2)How do the sounds of the SDS-8 compare to those of the SDS-V? Would
the SDS-8 also give me those classic sounds...or is the SDS-V the
ONLY serious choice?
