That is seriously the greatest idea I¹ve heard.
This whole thing is questionable. Who is it being marketed to? Us?!
Anyone who¹d actually buy it probably could care less what name is on it,
and anyone who wants a Simmons kit would be disappointed for the obvious
reasons (stock round pads and typical sound banks though I can imagine
there¹s - at the very least a ³classic hex² bank, you know in between the
³ballad kit² and the ³metal kit²).
Also, is anyone else bothered/confused by their decision to use the old
logo? Wouldn¹t the later one make more sense? Or a new one?
I can nit-pick all day, but the issue really seems to be GC¹s perception of
the Simmons brand not as innovators, or even evolutionary milestones in
the development of electronic drums. ³Simmons² to them means obsolete,
low-tech, entry-level, and not for ³serious² musicians (maybe a little
flimsy nostalgia thrown in), which has been the position of music retailers
ever since Roland, Yamaha, etc. rose to the top of the e-drum market in the
90¹s.
It¹s going to go one of two ways: Total flop (fingers crossed), or
³Simmons² becomes the leading maker of toy kits.
