the master unit was also a trigger pad a little larger you could plugin another 4 slaves
below on the back is a midi out the line inputs and a 9 volt power supply on top is a senisitivity pot and patch up/down buttons and a led readout for note and channel
basically they were designed to sit on the rim of a ccoustic drum and you could trigger whatever
i bought a set a couple of years back with a view to use as smaller trigers for say a cymbal but like many things it's still unused by me
one of the more rare bits of simmons gear i think when in the late 80's the drummer was polarised into a electronic or accoustic camps

Yeah, very ugly (not you, the pads!). I'm told you can clip 'em to
the rims of acoustic drums and providing you have the master you can,
as you say, trigger them for different sounds. But I still don't
figure out whether you have to use a module to obtain sounds or does
that come from the master?
