Subject: Re: [Simmons Drums] HiHat pedal for the SDX

Hi SDX Owner !
a friend of mine just talked about a custom Roland volume pedal that works fine for the SDx even better than the original Simmons HH pedal (not difficult the Original one is a pain ! )
I kno the pedal has been transformed with a potentiometer inside ...
He can even use it with a ADDone for the pich controller ...
There's some hope & it should work ...
But you'll have to change the threshold setting ...etc...on the HH sample window ...
bye,
Patrice.

Hi SDX owners,
I had the opportunity to try the Roland FD-8 HiHat Controller with my
SDX, and: It does NOT work by default.
But I found out (without schematics..., just try and error as I am not
too familiar with electronics), that using a stereo jack cable, a
short circuit between ring and sleeve means "HiHat Closing", nothing
connected means HiHat open, with a potentiometer (modulated by the
angle of the pedal) between tip and ring you can modulate between open
and closed. Enough theory for the moment. I don't know yet wether I
will slaughter the Roland pedal or build something "special" like when
I put a bassdrum pedal in my Volkswagen Bus when the gas pedal broke
off in southern France 15 years ago.
I'll keep you up to date ;-)
