My first memory of Simmons was seeing Genesis and tons of
other bands using the drums in videos on MTV. I wanted to
become a drummer and have a set of those cool hexagon
drums. I was probably 11 or 12. I didn't get into music till after
high school though and took up the guitar, not the drums. That
was towards the end of the "grunge" era. Then a few years ago I
built an electronic set using the Logiztix plans and messed with
those for a while, and although they worked great, they weren't
the "real thing." I started looking into one of the newer Roland or
Yamaha kits. Then I found those cool hexagon shaped drums
going for cheap on Ebay. I ended up piecing together an
SDS-1000 kit. First I found the brain, then a few months later
found a set of 4 white late model SDS pads and shortly after that
a late model SDS kick. Now the stuff is selling for so much
higher on Ebay!! Currently I'm thinking of retiring the Simmons
stuff before I wear it out and figuring out a way to get some
V-drums.
