I am not into radio, but i thought a PIN diode is used to get a variable capacity by changing the bias point. This does NOT require a fast diode, the bias is changed quite slowly. I do not doubt it can be used as pin diode, but this does not make it a fast diode. a 1n4007 is a slow mains frequency rectifier diode.
