Subject: removing solder resist from pcb boards

I have a fairly regular supply of single sided pcb boards, about 4 inches wide and about 20 inches long. There is only one little snag: they were used as screening between other boards and to avoid short circuits they have been coated in a rather tough green solder resist.
I have tried a range of household cleaners and solvents to try and remove this coating but to no avail. Mechanical removal does not seem and option, the stuff is very hard to shift and the board is damaged beyond use to get it all off.
I wonder if the combined knowledge and experience of the group might offer a solution?
